Oxygen Saturation level can be measured in two ways:
Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) Test:
ABG test measures oxygen and carbon dioxide levels in your bloodstream. This test also measures the pH balance in your blood.
Pulse Oximetry:
Pulse oximetry is an effortless, non-invasive technique used to measure the oxygen saturation level by using a small device known as Pulse Oximeter. Though pulse oximeters are usually connected to the fingers, they can also be attached to the forehead, nose, foot, earlobes or toes.
An oximeter reading only indicates the percentage of oxygen-saturated blood (SpO2) along with your pulse rate. The major goal of pulse oximetry is to check whether your blood is adequately oxygenated. You can also use a pulse oximeter at home.
